The Story Behind OLJ LUX
The idea for OLJ LUX started with a very simple problem: I could not find the filter I needed.
Several of my Zunow 5cm F1.1 lenses use an unusual 54.5mm filter thread. The only filters I found that fitted properly were old Bell & Howell 54.5mm filters.
For a while, I was lucky. I managed to buy a few through Yahoo! Auctions Japan. But they were already uncommon, and eventually I reached the point where there were simply none available when I looked.
That was the moment I decided to make one.
Rather than wait for another old filter to appear, I began developing a new 54.5mm filter specifically for the Zunow 5cm F1.1.
From there, the idea grew naturally. I am also developing a 54.5mm-to-62mm step-up ring, allowing compatible Zunow lenses to use 62mm filters and the OLJ Type 2 lens hood system. A 62mm OLJ LUX filter is planned as the companion size.
OLJ LUX is not intended to become a huge range of generic filters. The idea is to make useful filters and accessories for classic lenses where the right parts are becoming difficult to find.
Like many Old Lens Junkies projects, it began with something I wanted for my own lenses — and could no longer buy.
